Education is a popular optional among the aspirants of CCE. The subject is static in nature and syllabus is very precise. Reference books and study materials are readily available.
It is an interdisciplinary subject which draws on Sociology, Psychology, History and Philosophy to help us understand and broaden our knowledge about how people of all ages learn, and the factors that can impact positively and negatively on this.
Analysis of 2018 Prelims Paper:
No major changes were seen compared to previous years. Most of the questions were directly or indirectly repeated from previous year paper. Psychology section carried a lot more weightage than the previous years. Except for a few questions of education theory section, all the question could be attempted easily.
The syllabus can be divided into three sections.
- Theories of education.
- Education psychology
- History of education.
Aspirants should make good use of syllabus and previous year question paper. They should focus on the topic according to the syllabus and also emphasis on the question which were asked previously rather than covering the reference book cover to cover.

Education Theory: In education theory, the candidates should have basic knowledge about Aim/Meaning of education, Different components of education (school, curriculum, Discipline, play way) etc. They should focus on quotes of different thinkers. Meaning and origin of words such as education, curriculum etc are asked repeatedly. Apart from these, topics such as Theories of play and curriculum should be prepared well. For theories of play, aspirant must learn different theories of play and thinkers associated with them. Topics related to kinder garden, Montessori, surplus energy theory should be given importance. Question such as ‘who give the term. Play way’ or ‘ who is associated with surplus energy theory ‘ are asked frequently. Question expected from curriculum topic is related to recommendation made by different commission, types of curriculum, principle of curriculum. For the topic of natural integration and International understanding aspirants must focus on question related to UNESCO (Date of establishment, Headquarter etc and National and Emotional Integration Committee (chairman, Date of establishment etc).
Education History: Questions from this section are pretty much predictable. Aspirants must prepare few topics very thoroughly i.e Charter Act of 1813, Woods dispatch, Hunter commission, Bentick resolution, Wardha scheme etc. Questions related to date of publication of Acts, Chairman and Viceroys related to those Acts are asked every year. One must also focus an important clauses and figures related to those Acts. Questions are also asked from topics like National Education policy, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Operation Blackboard etc. Aspirant must learn the dates and states from where those schemes started and also emphasis should be given on Assam context.
Education psychology: The syllabus of this section is very precise, but about 30-40 questions are asked from this section. In education psychology, student should give more emphasis on physical basis of mental life. Most of the questions are asked from this section. While reading this topic, student should focus on issues like parts of brain, functioning of nervous system and sensory organs. After this topic, focus on theories of learning and name of the thinkers associated with them. In instinct and emotion topic, aspirant should remember all the instincts and emotions associated with them. For Intelligence topic, aspirant should learn what is IQ, who introduced this concept and formulas related to IQ. Statistics of education contain formula of mean, median and mode etc aspirants must remember all this formulas, those are asked directly every year. Apart from this, student should remember some facts related to psychological laboratory, branches of psychology etc.
