An interactive session was conducted in the month of August 2018 with Shri Biswajit Dutta, ALRS regarding the strategy for APSC Combined Competitive Exam in general with special focus on his optionals i.e. History and Sociology.
He informed that aspirants choose history as an optional because its easy to start with and is one subject least dependent on coaching. Also, it has convergence with the general studies papers. However, approaching history as an optional requires a very technical and objective approach. Students should start with the basic books like NCERT/NIOS and then move on to the specialised books.
He added that history should be taken as an optional only if one is interested in it. Then focus should be on understanding various perspectives on historiography, themes and archaeological and literary sources, rather than focussing on chronological details.
Shri Biswajit sir gave an indepth analysis of History optional explaining in detail the important topics chronology wise.
He also explained the various aspects of Answer writing and what it takes to score good marks in the Mains. He stressed the importance of structuring of the answer and following the “Introduction-Body-Conclusion” format specially in the 8, 10 and 16 marks questions and also how good content helps in getting good marks.
Overall, it was an enriching and learning experience for the aspirants. We would like to express our gratitude to Shri Biswajit sir for visiting our institute and sharing his experiance.
We, at LakshyaforIAS, guwahati wish him all the best.
